hello. my name is matt. i am proud to be the first full-time western english teacher at xinghai primary school. i come from milwaukee a city about 180 km north of chicago.
i graduated from the university of wisconsin-madison with a bachelor of science in communication arts. i wanted to be a film director but quickly realized that i don’t have any talent. after college, i work different jobs. some i liked and some i didn’t like at all. finally, my girlfriend elissa convinced me to get a tefl certificate and teach english.
we moved to seoul, korea and taught english for a year. i immediately fell in love with teaching, and knew that this is what i wanted to do for the rest of my life.
i am very excited to be in china, a country with 5,000 years of history. before moving to china i thought that i was good at crossing the street, but after one year i will be an expert. also, i never knew i was so strange looking. i have never had so many people stare at me in my whole life.
i am already very impressed by the students here. grammar is always the toughest part of our language, but the students here have wonderful grammar. it is obvious that they have worked very hard. this is a testament to the fantastic job the teachers at xinghai primary school have done. i will do my best to help the students achieve excellence.
