   goodafternoon.onmyorders,theunitedstatesmilitaryhasbegunstrikesagaitalqaedaterroristtrainingcamandmilitaryitallatioofthetalibanregimeinafghanistan.thesecarefullytargetedactioaredesignedtodisrupttheuseofafghanistanasaterroristbaseofoperatio,andtoattackthemilitarycapabilityofthetalibanregime.

wearejoinedinthisoperationbyourstaunchfriend,greatbritain.otherclosefriends,includingcanada,australia,germanyandfrance,havepledgedforcesastheoperationunfolds.morethan40countriesinthemiddleeast,africa,europeandacroasiahavegrantedairtraitorlandingrights.manymorehavesharedintelligence.wearesuortedbythecollectivewilloftheworld.

morethantwoweeksago,igavetalibanleadersaseriesofclearandecificdemands:closeterroristtrainingcamhandoverleadersofthealqaedanetwork;andreturnallforeignnationals,includingamericancitize,unjustlydetainedinyourcountry.noneofthesedemandsweremet.andnowthetalibanwillpayaprice.bydestroyingcamanddisruptingcommunicatio,wewillmakeitmoredifficultfortheterrornetworktotrainnewrecruitsandcoordinatetheirevilpla.

initially,theterroristsmayburrowdeeperintocavesandotherentrenchedhidingplaces.ourmilitaryactionisalsodesignedtoclearthewayforsustained,compreheiveandrelentleoperatiotodrivethemoutandbringthemtojustice.
