Goodmorning.I’mLauraBush,andI’mdeliveringthisweek’sradioaddretokickoffaworld-wideefforttofocusonthebrutalityagaitwomenandchildrenbytheal-QaidaterroristnetworkandtheregimeitsuortsinAfghanistan,theTaliban.Thatregimeisnowinretreatacromuchofthecountry,andthepeopleofAfghanistan-eeciallywomen-arerejoicing.Afghanwomenknow,throughhardexperience,whattherestoftheworldisdiscovering:Thebrutaloreionofwomenisacentralgoaloftheterrorists.Longbeforethecurrentwarbegan,theTalibananditsterroristalliesweremakingthelivesofchildrenandwomeninAfghanistanmiserable.SeventypercentoftheAfghanpeoplearemalnourished.Oneineveryfourchildrenwon’tlivepasttheageoffivebecausehealthcareisnotavailable.Womenhavebeendeniedaccetodoctorswhenthey’resick.LifeundertheTalibanissohardandrepreive,evensmalldilaysofjoyareoutlawed-childrenaren’tallowedtoflykitetheirmothersfacebeatingsforlaughingoutloud.Womencaotworkoutsidethehome,orevenleavetheirhomesbythemselves.版权所有

ThesevererepreionandbrutalityagaitwomeninAfghanistanisnotamatteroflegitimatereligiouspractice.MuslimsaroundtheworldhavecondemnedthebrutaldegradationofwomenandchildrenbytheTalibanregime.Thepoverty,poorhealth,andilliteracythattheterroristsandtheTalibanhaveimposedonwomeninAfghanistandonotconformwiththetreatmentofwomeninmostoftheIslamicworld,wherewomenmakeimportantcontributiointheirsocieties.OnlytheterroristsandtheTalibanforbideducationtowomen.OnlytheterroristsandtheTalibanthreatentopulloutwomen’sfingernailsforwearingnailpolish.TheplightofwomenandchildreninAfghanistanisamatterofdeliberatehumancruelty,carriedoutbythosewhoseektointimidateandcontrol.

Civilizedpeoplethroughouttheworldareeakingoutinhorror-notonlybecauseourheartsbreakforthewomenandchildreninAfghanistan,butalsobecauseinAfghanistan,weseetheworldtheterroristswouldliketoimposeontherestofus.
