Thereareanumberofreasoforthisincreaseinviolence.OnereasonisthatCoalitionandIraqiforceshavebeenconductingfocusedoperatiotobringsecuritytoBaghdad.Sidebyside,IraqiandAmericanforcesareoperatinginthecity’smostviolentareastodisruptalQaeda,captureenemyfighters,crackdownonIEDmakers,andbreakupdeathsquads.Asweengageourenemiesintheirstronghold,theseenemiesareputtingupatoughfight.InabriefinginIraqonThursday,GeneralWilliamCaldwellsaidtheoperationtosecureBaghdadhas"notmetouroverallexpectatio."Healsoexplained,"It’snocoincidencethatthesurgeinattacksagaitcoalitionforcescoincideswithourincreasedpresenceinthestreetsinBaghdad."
