ialsothankmyfriendbernice,whohasservedsowellonbehalfofaipac,andcongratulatehowardfriedman,theincomingpresident.ithankhowardkohr,yourexecutivedirector;amyfriedkiandeveryonewhoworkssohardforaipacnotjustwhenthereisagreatgathering,likethisconference,buteverysingleday,workingwithusinthecongreworkinghereinwashington.

iwanttotakejustafewminutestodiscusomeofthesignificantchallengesfacingtheunitedstates,israelandourworldtoday.asyouknowbetterthanmost,eventsinthemiddleeastareaolutelycriticaltoourhopeforasafer,moresecureworld,aworldinwhicheverynationisfreefromthethreatofglobalterrorism.andastrong,lastingrelatiohipbetweentheunitedstatesandisraeliseentialtooureffortstobuildthatworldofpeaceandsecurity.

asallofusknow,ourfuturehereinthiscountryisintertwinedwiththefutureofisraelandthemiddleeast.nowthereisalotthatwecouldtalkabout,andobviouslymuchhasbeendiscued.butintheshortperiodthatihavebeengiventhehonorofaddreingyou,iwanttostartbyfocusingonourdeepandlastingbondbetweentheunitedstatesandisrael.

now,thesearebondsthataremorethansharedinterests.thesearebondsforgedinacommonstruggleforhumanrights,fordemocracy,forfreedom.thesearebondsthatpredatethecreationofthestateofisrael,thatreallypredatethecreationoftheunitedstatesbecausetheyarerootedinfundamentalbeliefsandvaluesaboutthedignityandrightsofmenandwomentoliveinfreedom,freefromfear,f
