Goodmorning.Thisweek,Americareceivedastarkreminderthatterroristsarestillplottingattackstokillourpeople.BegiingonWednesdaynight,authoritiesinGreatBritainarrestedmorethan20individualswhowebelievewereplottingtodetonateliquidexplosivesaboardflightsfromtheUnitedKingdomtotheUnitedStates.Iftheseterroristshadsucceeded,theycouldhavecauseddeathonamaivescale.Theplotaearstohavebeencarefullyplaedandwell-advanced.Theyplaedtobringthecomponentsoftheirexplosivesonboardintheircarry-onluggage,disguisedasbottleddrinksandelectronicdevices.

Webelievethatthisweek’sarrestshavesignificantlydisruptedthethreat.Yetwecaotbesurethatthethreathasbeeneliminated.Soasaprecaution,onThursday,thefederalgovernmenttookseveralstetoincreasesecurityatourairportsandaboardourplanes.

First,theDepartmentofHomelandSecurityhasraisedourNation’sthreatwarningtoCodeRed--thehighestleve版权所有l--forflightsfromGreatBritaintoAmerica,incoordinationwithBritishauthorities.Second,we’veraisedthethreatwarningforalldomesticandinternationalflightslandingintheUnitedStatestoCodeOrange--thesecondhighestlevel.WealsohavesentadditionalfederalairmarshalstoGreatBritaintoprovideextraprotectionaboardflightsfromtheUnitedKingdomtotheUnitedStates.

Thisplotisfurtherevidencethattheterroristswefacearesophisticated,andcotantlychangingtheirtactics.OnSeptemberthe11th,20xx,theyusedboxcutterstohijackairplanesandkillthousandsofiocentpeople.Thistime,webelievetheyplaedtouseliquidexplosivestoblowupplanesinmid-air.Inreoe,we’veadjustedoursecurityprecautiobytemporarilybaingmostliquidsascarry-onitemsonplanes.Iknowmanyofyouwillbetravelingduringthisbusysummervacationseason,andIaskforyourpatience,cooperation,andvigilanceinthecomingdays.Theinconveniencesyouwillfaceareforyourprotection,andtheywillgiveustimetoadjustourscreeningprocedurestomeetthecurrentthreat.
