Goodmorning.Earlierthisweek,ItraveledtoBaghdadtovisitthecapitalofafreeanddemocraticIraq.ItwasanincrediblefeelingtostandinthecockpitofAirForceOneandwatchthepilotsteerusintowardBaghdad.

Afterwelanded,Ihadthepleasureofmeetingwithourdedicatedembaystaffandintelligenceofficersservingfarfromhomeunderdangerouscircumstances.AndIwashonoredtomeetwithsomeofourtroo,includingthosereoibleforbringingjusticetotheterroristZarqawi.Itwasaprivilegetoshaketheirhands,lookthemintheeye,andtellthemhowmuchtheAmericanpeopleareciatetheirdailycourage,andhowmuchweareciatethesacrificesthattheyandtheirfamiliesaremaking.

Onmytrip,IalsometwiththenewIraqiPrimeMinisterMaliki,andIwasabletoseefirsthandhisstrongcharacterandhisdeterminationtosucceed.WeheldajointmeetingofourtwoCabinets,withmembersofmyCabinetparticipatingbyvideoteleconferencefromCampDavid.ThePrimeMinisterbrie版权所有fedusonhisplantotakeimmediatesteinthreekeyareas:improvingsecurity,buildingupIraq’seconomysoIraqiscanseerealprogreintheirlives,andreachingouttotheinternationalcommunitytosecuresuortforIraq’snewgovernment.ThenwediscuedhowmyadministrationcanhelpthePrimeMinisteraccomplishthesevitalobjectives.

HistoppriorityissecuringBaghdad,soCoalitionandIraqiforceshavelaunchedOperationTogetherForward,ajointefforttorestoresecurityandtheruleoflawtohigh-riskareasofthecity.TohelpthePrimeMinisterimprovesecurity,wewillcontinueembeddingCoalitiontraitionteamsinIraqiarmyandpoliceunits,andwewillhelpthenewIraqiMinistersofDefeeandInteriorimprovetheircommandandcontrol,rootoutcorruption,andinvestigateandpunishhumanrightsviolatio.WewillalsosuortthePrimeMinisterasheworkstoreininillegalmilitias,buildajudicialsystemthatwillprovideequaljusticetoall,andpromotereconciliationamongtheIraqipeople.
