ThisTuesdaymarksthefirstaiversaryofKatrina--oneofthedeadliestandmostcostlynaturaldisastersinAmericanhistory.InMiiii,thestormwipedoutvirtuallyeverythingalongan80-milestretchofthecoast,flatteninghomesanddestroyingentirecommunities.InLouisiana,floodingleft80percentofthecityofNewOrleaunderwater.Thehumancostswereevenmoreterrible.Morethanathousandpeopledied,countlefamilieslosttheirhomesandlivelihoods,andteofthousandsofmen,women,andchildrenwereforcedtofleetheregionandleavebehindeverythingtheyknew.
