Goodmorning.LauraandIwishallAmericaasafeandhay4thofJulyweekend.I’mlookingforwardtoendingIndependenceDaywithmembersofourArmedForcesandtheirfamiliesatFortBragg,NorthCarolina.Thesebravemenandwomenrisktheirlivestodefendtheidealsofourfoundinggeneration,andIwillhavethehonorofthankingmanyofthempersonallyfortheirserviceinfreedom’scause.

In1776,JohnAdamspredictedtohiswife,Abigail,thatAmerica’sIndependenceDaywouldbecelebratedbysucceedinggeneratioasthegreataiversaryfestival.Hewrotethat"thisaiversaryshouldbecommemoratedwithpompandparade,withshows,games,orts,bells,bonfires,andilluminatiofromoneendofthiscontinenttotheother,fromthistimeforward,forevermore."

Sincethen,generatioofAmericahavedonejustthat.EachyearwelookforwardtothefamilygatheringsandthegrandcelebratiothattakeplaceacrotheNationonthe4thofJuly.Andamidthemusicandbarbequesandfireworks,wegivethanksforourfreedom,andwehonorthebraveryandsacrificesofallthosewhohavemadethatfreedompoible.

OnIndependenceDay,werecallthecourageandhighidealsofourNation’sfounders,whowagedadeeratefighttoovercometyrayandliveinfreedom.Recentyearshavebroughtarenewedinterestinthelivesandachievementsofourfounders,andwehavelearnedonceagainthattheypoeedextraordinarytalents,aswellasordinaryhumanfailings,whichonlymakestheiraccomplishmentsal版权所有lthemoreremarkable.

Forthebravemenandwomenofourfoundinggeneration,victorywasfarfromcertain.Theywerecertainonlyofthecausetheyserved--thebeliefthatfreedomisthegiftofGodandtherightofallmankind.ThestrengthoftheirconvictiomadepoiblethebirthofthefreeNationinwhichwearebleedtolive.

Onthe4thofJulywealsohonorthesacrificesmadebyeachAmericangenerationtosecurethepromisesoftheDeclarationofIndependence.Formorethantwocenturies,fromthecamofValleyForge,tothemountaiofAfghanistan,Americahaveservedandsacrificedfortheprinciplesofourfounding.
