butiwillsaythisagain--thisisnotonmyremarks--yourgenerationmustdomoreaboutthis.thisisahugechallengeforyou,fortheamericanpeopleandforthefutureoftheworld.anditmustbeaddreedattheuniversitylevel,becausepoliticalleaderswillneverbewillingtoadoptenvironmentalmeasuresiftheybelieveitwillleadtolarge-scaleunemploymentormorepoverty.theevidenceisclearthatdoesnothavetohaen.youwillactuallyhavemorerapideconomicgrowthandbetterpayingjo,leadingtohigherlevelsofeducationandtechnologyifwedothisintheproperway.butyouandtheuniversity,communitiesinchina,theunitedstatesandthroughouttheworldwillhavetoleadtheway.(alause.)
inthe21stcenturyyourgenerationmustalsoleadthechallengeofaninternationalfinancialsystemthathasnoreectfornationalborders.whenstockmarketsfallinhongkongorjakarta,theeffectsarenolongerlocal;theyareglobal.thevibrantgrowthofyourowneconomyistiedclosely,therefore,totherestorationofstabilityandgrowthintheasiapacificregion.
